Hi There!

I’m Jim Parrillo, and I’m a freelance web designer and developer.  thinkjimcreative.com is the name I use for my freelance work.  I live in Rochester, New York with my partner Chris and our two children, Ian and Theresa.  I have been building websites since 1997, but only recently did it become my full time job.

I build websites using CSS3 and HTML5.  I also like to build in extra functionality and enhance site usability with JavaScript and JavaScript libraries like jQuery and I’ve recently started learning and implementing Mootools. For clients that require a CMS (content management system) I use WordPress and Joomla.

Development Tools

I develop standards based websites using CSS3 and HTML5 whenever possible. I mostly develop on a Mac running OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) and I also have a virtual installation of Windows XP running on my Mac via VMWare Fusion which I use for testing for browser compatibility issues. I also recently picked up a lil’ red netbook from System 76 running Ubuntu 10 (Lucid Linux) which is nice for offsite coffee shop coding.

Prior to working as a freelance web designer, I was a Project Manager in the wireless communication industry building cell towers.  For over 10 years I worked in various Project Management consulting positions for companies like Sprint and AT&T Wireless.  This corporate experience has given me a great perspective on fast paced work environments where speed and accuracy are life-or-death issues.

I now work mostly with a small team of designers and developers to develop websites, provide marketing direction and technical decision support including: blogs, advertising, search engine optimization (SEO) and social media.
